9 day Rwanda wildlife and primate safari

The safari takes you to the three national parks of Rwanda including; Akagera national park, Nyungwe Forest national Park and Volcanoes national Park. The safari includes a gorilla permit of worth $1500 per person per day. You enjoy chimpanzee and gorilla trekking, a canopy walk, golden monkey tracking as well as a city tour of Kigali.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at the airport

Upon your arrival at the airport, the tour guide welcomes you and drives you to the hotel where you will take to the Hotel for an overnight and dinner.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest national Park

Start your safari with a drive to Nyungwe Forest national Park via Butare museum. After, head to Gikongoro and visit Murambi genocide memorial centre and have lunch. After proceed with your drive to Nyungwe Forest.

Day 3: chimpanzee trekking

Have breakfast and then proceed with the rangers to the forest to track the chimpanzees in Nyungwe forest. This forest is home to chimpanzees comparable to those in Uganda’s kibale national Park. The L’Hoest monkeys and the white Angolan Colobus Monkeys make primate tourism with in the forest corresponding to no other in Africa

After lunch, drive to Nyanza which is the historical seat of the long ago kings of Rwanda. Get to visit the village alders, intore dancers and the great legends of Rwanda. Get to enjoy the dances that will be organized.

Day 4: Have a canopy walk

Have breakfast at the lodge and then proceed for a canopy walk which is the second largest canopy in Africa. You are to see many animal species including; the monkeys, birds and many other wildlife species. After return to the lodge for lunch and then proceed for Colobus monkey tracking and enjoy these unique species as they play around from tree to tree. Later after, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Transfer to Kibuye town

After breakfast, drive to Kibuye which is the beautiful lake resort of Lake Kivu, Lake Kivu is one of the greatest lakes in Rwanda and is in the albertine rift valley, which is part of the great rift valleys. The Lake is 2650 square kilometers with fresh water expanse as well as the largest of all the lakes in Rwanda. You spend the afternoon by the lake shores.

Day 6: Transfer to Musanze- Volcanoes

Have breakfast and then drive to Musanze in Ruhengeri which is the base town for mountain gorillas. In the evening you go for a cultural adventure at the ibiwacu cultural village. This cultural village offers you a rare chance of meeting the local people, in their environment, where you taste the Rwandan culture and traditions. You are welcomed by the community people who will present you the aspects of their traditions and beliefs. After, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Golden Monkey tracking in Volcanoes national park

Wake up so early and have breakfast and then transfer to the head quarters for briefing about the dos and donts of golden Monkey trekking in Volcanoes national Park. You start searching for these monkeys and once you meet them, you are given 1 hour to watch them as they move and play around. You also have a chance of seeing other wildlife species like the mountain gorillas, birds, elephants and many more.

After, return back to the lodge for dinner and an overnight.

Day 8: Gorilla trekking & transfer to Kigali

Have breakfast at the lodge and then proceed to the park head quarters for briefing about the dos and donts of gorilla trekking in Rwanda. By 8:30 am , hike into the forest in search for the allocated gorilla family with which you are to spend 1 hour and then get back to the starting point. The trekking time varies from 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on the movement of these endangered species and where they spent the past night. This trek is tiresome but so impressive when you finally face the mountain gorillas.

After, have lunch at the lodge and then drive back to Kigali city for an overnight.

Day 9: Have a city tour & departure

Have breakfast at the hotel and then proceed for a city tour where you visit the genocide memorial site/ Museum and then proceed to the airport for your departure flight.
